Terroir

The Subotica-Horgoš Sands are located in the northern part of Bačka in Vojvodina, right next to the Hungarian border. It is the southernmost part of the large sandy area stretching between the Danube, Tisza, Budapest and northern Bačka.

This wavy terrain with an average elevation of 117 to 134 metres, stretches over 25,000 water-rich hectares encompassing Subotica, Bački Vinogradi with the Tonković Winery, Hajdukovo, Horgoš, Mala Pijaca, Kanjiža, Kelebija and Tavankut. In this part of Bačka, viticulture developed thanks to forestation, which prevented the erosion of the sandy ground, now a key part of this specific terroir.
